Analytical Exercise III

9th January 2008

PLEASE NOTE FINAL DETAILS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL BE ESTABLISHED ONCE WE KNOW THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN THE CLASS

Last updated February 22nd for finalization in class February 27th

Due March 30th

The third assignment is to be completed in partnership with the same person as you work with on your presentation. The product will be a jointly produced 1000 word paper including appropriate references and web links or an equivalent web page. You can add a page for diagrams, figures, tables etc. Note this assignment includes appropriate referencing or linking. The references are not included in the 1000 word count.

During the course we will be examining Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), which, in various forms, is being advocated, developed and implemented as the latest and best approach. We will see that it is proving to be a challenge to put IWRM principles into practice around the world. In Canada there is widespread criticism about our failure to make progress on a national strategy for water and relatively little attention to IWRM when compared with Europe. This has resulted in a spate of recent reports and proposals for action in Canada that will be identified during the first part of the course. In this final assignment you are to draw on all that has been considered during the course to address the following question:

What should be the nature and content of a national water strategy for Canada?

Your paper or web page will be due in hard and electronic copy March 30th and will be posted to the course web site for review by other members of the class as a basis for discussion in the last two classes of the term.

Grading for this assignment will be as for the previous exercises.
