Introduction 2 3.30-5.00

Groups will discuss "What are the water resources issues to be addressed?" for 15 minutes

The goal is to develop a list of issues (e.g. water pollution, overfishing etc.) and select the three (3) which you feel are the critical challenges for water resource planners and managers to address.

Groups 1, 2, and 3 will focus on developed world contexts

Groups 4 and 5 will focus on developing world contexts

Each group will write down each of its issues on a separate sheet of paper, printing it so that others can read it at a distance when we post it on the wall.

Introduction 3 5.30-7.00

For 20 minutes each of the groups will discuss the first four questions on the agenda and then summarize the results on one large sheet of flip chart paper as follows:

• A definition of a model
• 3 examples of different types of models
  • one being relevant to each of the 3 sub-systems (bio-physical, socio-economic, institutional-governance)
  • indicate how each is used in planning for water resources management

Identify someone who will speak briefly to the ideas on the page when we reconvene.
